Funk Style Quality ( aka FSQ ) is a U.S. based music production team and DJ collective. We produce original dance oriented music that spans across many diverse genres but our catalog is most easily classified as disco, house and funk. Our public appearances consist of FSQ DJ sets and also live funk band performances known as FSQ and The SQ’s.

We seek an artist manager to develop FSQ’s music career in the long term and to create immediate opportunities in the short term including but not limited to:

  • Development, management and engagement of FSQ’s fan base
  • Generation of new DJ gigs and live concert bookings, including residencies and tour routing, developed in coordination with our booking agent, Armige Agency
  • A&R, including developing collaborations with other artists and record labels of import
  • Brand and advertising opportunities and music sync in TV/ film
  • PR Support — media exposure and management of FSQ’s existing and future industry contacts (running list of press appearances to date, here)

FSQ, established in 2013 (bio), has a pipeline of original music productions coming in 2018 and beyond, to be released on Soul Clap Records (our primary record label home) and as well on Midnight Riot Records. We are also well known for our remix production work for other artists, released across a variety of record labels including BBE Music, Jalapeno Records, Wolf + Lamb, Bastard Jazz. We recently released a full length album that compiles of our remix work for our fellow Soul Clap Records label mates, titled FSQ’s “The Remix Special”.

FSQ performs at major festivals like Movement Festival, Miami Music Week, Moonrise Festival, Voodoo Festival, The BPM Festival, and important venues like Black Flamingo, Output, Cielo, Jupiter Disco, Oslo Hackney London, Short Stop Los Angeles, LeBain NYC, Ace Hotel Palm Springs, Elbo Room SF, Eighteenth Street Lounge DC, Electric Pickle Miami, Hostal La Torre Ibiza, , Kingdom Austin, Soho House-Miami, Santos Party House, Pianos-NYC, CMon Everybody Brooklyn.

Why an artist manager for FSQ? We are now at the point — 4 years since our initial release as FSQ — where we are missing too many new opportunities because it’s difficult to be producing music and performing at the same time as chasing those opportunities up; and it’s difficult to brainstorm about new directions when you are so busy. We need a committed team member on point to manage these areas.

How does working with FSQ benefit your career in artist management? FSQ members are esteemed multi-instrumentalists, producers and industry pros. Founder Chuck Fishman toured with George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and today he directs the legendary funk group’s digital media and emerging partnerships. Fishman also works for Gracenote / Nielsen Music as a business development director which puts him in the middle of important music business deals and conversations. He has 10 years of experience working in music technology. FSQ’s Rob G Koop Mandell is a Grammy nominated producer who co-wrote Migos’ hit “Bad and Boujee” and is 2017's #6 selling hip-hop producer according to Nielsen Music with his productions selling over 5,000,000 units for that year. FSQ is an important key to Soul Clap’s work with legendary artists over the past few years, having put the duo with George Clinton and Nona Hendryx. FSQ executive produced several tracks on their full length self titled album, Soul Clap. The point we are trying to make is that, FSQ has the connections and experience that we will plug you into; yet we need your time, commitment, hustle and muscle. We also expect that you bring your own network and ideas to the table as well.

(Some) Expected Job Duties — FSQ Management

  • Identify the right promoters and venues to work with in our key markets and establish a frequency of both DJ and live band shows that promotionally support our music release schedule and build and engage our fan base
  • Traditionally FSQ has done well at festivals and we need the manager to identify the right festivals to align FSQ with and pursue opportunities including international music events
  • Responsible for audience management via CRM technology (today we use Mailchimp) ; as well, we look to manager to identify new technologies to stay in touch and manage the fan base (example: Superphone)
  • FSQ maintains a project management matrix that includes key release dates, upcoming shows, and record industry outreach. Our manager will use this matrix to track activities related to our artist development.
  • A&R work includes contacting record labels and artists we like, at the direction of FSQ, to develop collaborations and remix work for those artists and labels. Additionally manager should be spotting for emerging artists that FSQ is not aware of, and potentially creatives beyond music including video producers, artists, fashion.
  • Develops press strategy and manages outreach around upcoming releases, liaising with the marketing teams of our record label and booking agent

Who is an ideal candidate to be FSQ’s manager?

  • Ideally we want someone NYC based as they can attend dance music events here in the city, network, and work with FSQ’s founder directly ; managers who live in our other key markets like London, LA, SF, Miami will be considered, NYC preferred
  • Someone who can commit to a particular amount of hours per week to work on FSQ artist management — from 10 hours at minimum to 40 maximum
  • Artist managers typically take a % of artist earnings but we are also willing to consider a monthly retainer or hourly rate as we develop ; we consider ourselves an emerging artist
  • Someone who has deep knowledge of the dance music market, the particular genres that are driving the industry, along with established and emerging and fresh artists
  • Beyond dance music, they should be familiar with the overall music industry from pop acts to US alt-rock or world music
  • Someone that is looking to grow their career as an artist manager
  • High emotional quotient and the ability to make a high volume of phone calls beyond just emailing people
  • Ability to travel and interest in attending key industry festivals and events like Miami Music Week, SXSW, Sonar, International Music Summit
  • We are willing to consider an established artist manager that has a roster of other artists and on the opposite end of the spectrum an individual that is just starting out or is getting a MBA with a focus on Music Business
